SOtheD 3.30.10 At the Cross (Hillsong)

You have overcome the grave...Your glory fills the highest place...What can separate me now?

At the Cross

Oh Lord You've searched me
You know my way
Even when I fail You
I know You love me
Your holy presence
Surrounding me
In every season
I know You love me
I know You love me

At the cross I bow my knee
Where Your blood was shed for me
There's no greater love than this
You have overcome the grave
Your glory fills the highest place
What can separate me now

You go before me
You shield my way
Your hand upholds me
I know You love me

At the cross I bow my knee
Where Your blood was shed for me
There's no greater love than this
You have overcome the grave
Your glory fills the highest place
What can separate me now

You tore the veil
You made a way
When You said that it is done

And when the earth fades
Falls from my eyes
And You stand before me
I know You love me
I know You love me

At the cross I bow my knee
Where Your blood was shed for me
There's no greater love than this
You have overcome the grave
Your glory fills the highest place
What can separate me now

SOtheD 3.29.10 Remember Me (Mark Schultz)

A great song to start off this week of remembrance...

Remember Me

Remember me
In a Bible cracked and faded by the years
Remember me
In a santuary filled with silent prayers

And age to age And heart to heart
Bound by grace and peace
Child of wonder, Child of God
I'll remember you Remember Me

Remember me
When the color of the sunset fills the sky
Remember me
When you pray and the tears of joy fall from your eyes

And age to age And heart to heart
Bound by grace and peace
Child of wonder, Child of God
I'll remember you Remember Me

Remember me
When the children leave their Sunday school with smiles
Remember me
When they're old enough to teach Old enough to preach Old enough to leave

And age to age And heart to heart
Bound by grace and peace
Child of wonder, Child of God
I'll remember you Remember Me

SOtheD 3.27.10 One Day (Nichole Nordeman & Selah)

One Day

One day eyes that are blind will see you clearly
And one day all who deny will finally believe
One day hearts made of stone will break in pieces
And one day chains once unbroken will fall down at your feet
So we wait for that one day come quickly

We want to see your Glory
Every knee falls down before thee
Every tongue offers you praise
With every hand raised
Singing Glory To you and unto you only
We'll sing Glory to Your name

One day voices that lie will all be silent
One day all that's divided will be whole again
One day death will retreat and wave it's white flag
One day love will defeat the strongest enemy
So we wait for that one day come quickly

We know not the day or the hour
Or the moments in between
But we know the end of the story
When we'll see Chorus

SOtheD 3.26.10 Faithful One (Selah)

Faithful One
I find no hope within to call my own
For I am frail of heart, my strength is gone
But deep within my soul is rising up a song
Here in the comfort of the faithful one
I walk a narrow road through valleys deep
In search of higher ground, on mountains steep
And though with feet unsure, I still keep pressing on.
For I am guided by the faithful one.
Faithful, faithful to the end,
My true and precious friend,
You have been faithful, Faithful, so faithful to me
I see your wounded hands, I touch your side
With thorns upon your brow you bled and died
But there’s an empty tomb, a love for all who come
And give their hearts to you, the faithful one.
Faithful, faithful to the end,
My true and precious friend,
You have been faithful, Faithful, so faithful to me
And when the day is dawned and when the race is run
I will bow down before God’s only Son
And I will lift my hands in praise for all you’ve done
And I will worship you, my faithful one.

Retro SOtheD 3.25.10 El Shaddai (Michael Card)

El Shaddai

El Shaddai, El Shaddai, El-Elyon na Adonia,

Age to age You're still the same, By the power of the name.

El Shaddai, El Shaddai, Erkamka na Adonai,

We will praise and lift You high, El Shaddai.

Through your love and through the ram, You saved the son of Abraham; Through the power of your hand, Turned the sea into dry land. To the outcast on her knees, You were the God who really sees, And by Your might, You set Your children free.

El Shaddai, El Shaddai, El-Elyon na Adonia,

Age to age You're still the same, By the power of the name.

El Shaddai, El Shaddai, Erkamka na Adonai,

We will praise and lift You high, El Shaddai.

Through the years You've made it clear, That the time of Christ was near, Though the people couldn't see What Messiah ought to be. Though Your Word contained the plan, They just could not understand Your most awesome work was done Through the frailty of Your Son.

El Shaddai, El Shaddai, El-Elyon na Adonai,

Age to age You're still the same, By the power of the name.

El Shaddai, El Shaddai, Erkamka na Adonai, I will praise and lift You high, El Shaddai.

El Shaddai, El Shaddai, El-Elyon na Adonai,

Age to age You're still the same, By the power of the name.

El Shaddai, El Shaddai, Erkamka na Adonai, I will praise and lift You high, El Shaddai.

El Shaddai, is most often translated as "God Almighty."
El-Elyon na Adonai is a combination of two names for God, meaning "God Most High, O Lord" (na is a particle of entreaty, sometimes translated "please" but often left untranslated).
Erkamka na Adonai is taken from Psalm 18:1 (except for the "na," which is added) and is normally translated "I love you (ארחמך), O Lord." Psalm 18:1 is the only place that the Hebrew Bible uses this verb for love in the Qal stem; this is normally an Aramaic usage. Hebrew uses this verb in the Piel stem.

SOtheD 3.24.10 A Place Called Grace (Phillips, Craig & Dean)

A Place Called Grace

So many years I heard it told
The story of compassion
A prodigal son who left the fold
And found no satisfaction
On my knees, Lord, I cried out to You
I'm so alone
But if there's room in Your house for one more
I'm ready to come back home

I know there is a place
Where arms of compassion welcome me home
Sweet mercy falls like rain
I know there's a place called grace

So many days I've trusted grace
Yet I have to wonder
How many times my human strength
Has kept me from surrender
The more I learn just to lean on the cross
The more I see
When I fall, I will fall to the place
Where mercy reaches me (Reaches me)

I know there is a place
Where arms of compassion welcome me home
Sweet mercy falls like rain
I know there's a place called grace

If it seems that my courage is strong
There's just one reason
He's my rock when my faith is all gone
He holds me in His arms
Gives me strength to carry on

SOtheD 3.23.10 Orphans of God (Avalon)

Orphans of God

Who here among us has not been broken
Who here among us is without guilt or pain
So oft abandoned by our transgressions
If such a thing as grace exists
Then grace was made for lives like this

There are no strangers
There are no outcasts
There are no orphans of God
So many fallen, but hallelujah
There are no orphans of God

Come ye unwanted and find affection
Come all ye weary, come and lay down your head
Come ye unworthy, you are my brother
If such a thing as grace exists
Then grace was made for lives like this

There are no strangers
There are no outcasts
There are no orphans of God
So many fallen, but hallelujah
There are no orphans of God

O blessed Father, look down upon us
We are Your children, we need Your love
We run before Your throne of mercy
And seek Your face to rise above

SOtheD 3.22.10 New Jerusalem (Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir)

Looking forward to a day when healthcare is no longer needed... this is our temporary dwelling place. Everytime I am tempted to think I'd rather be here on earth than in eternity with my Savior, I listen to this song and my longings for Heaven immediately return.

New Jerusalem

If words could describe the longing in my heart
For the place prepared for me
When i think of Heaven's glory
Awaiting the redeemed
All within me rises up at the thought of what will be

How I long for the New Jersusalem
Just to see my Saviors face
Oh my heart is in Jerusalem
My home, my resting place.

Heard that the streets are paved with gold
and the light there never fades
I heard of treasures to behold
that words could not explain
And the praise of the saints like an ocean
Holy is the Lamb that was slain

How I long for the New Jersusalem
Just to see my Saviors face
Oh my heart is in Jerusalem
My home, my resting place.

No more crying...
No more pain...
Every tear will be wiped away
All suffering on earth shall cease
Forevermore at peace

How I long for the New Jersusalem
Just to see my Saviors face
Oh my heart is in Jerusalem
My home, my resting place.

SOtheD 3.21.10 By Our Love (Christy Nockels)

By Our Love

Brothers, let us come together
Walking in the Spirit, there's much to be done...
We will come reaching, out from our comforts
And they will know us by our love...

Sisters, we were made for kindness
We can pierce the darkness as He shines through us...
We will come reaching, with a song of healing...
And they will know us by our love!

The time is now
Come Church arise...
Love with His hands
See with His eyes...
Bind it around you,
Let it never leave you,
And they will know us by our love...

Children, You are hope for justice,
Stand firm in the Truth now, set your hearts above
You will be reaching, long after we’re gone,
And they will know you by your love!

SOtheD 5.20.10 At the Foot of the Cross (Don Moen)

At the Foot of the Cross

At the foot of the cross
Where grace and suffering meet
You have shown me Your love
Through the judgment You received
And You've won my heart
And You've won my heart
Now I can

Trade these ashes in for beauty
And wear forgiveness like a crown
Coming to kiss the feet of mercy
I lay every burden down
At the foot of the cross

At the foot of the cross
Where I am made complete
You have given me life
Through the death you bore for me
And You've won my heart
And You've won my heart

Trade these ashes in for beauty
And wear forgiveness like a crown
Coming to kiss the feet of mercy
I lay every burden down
At the foot of the cross

SOtheD 3.19.10 A Mighty Fortress (Christy Nockels)

This song is incredible! - came across it this week and can't stop listening to it. "Your Kingdom is unshakable, with You forever we will reign!"

A Mighty Fortress

Our God is, a consuming fire,
A burning holy Flame, with glory and freedom
Our God is, the only righteous judge,
Ruling over us with kindness and wisdom
We will keep our eyes on You
We will keep our eyes on You

A mighty fortress is our God
A sacred refuge is Your Name
Your Kingdom is unshakable
With You forever we will reign

Our God is, jealous for His own
None could comprehend, His love and His mercy
Our God is exalted on His throne
High above the heavens
Forever He’s worthy...
We will keep our eyes on You
We will keep our eyes on You

A mighty fortress is our God
A sacred refuge is Your Name
Your Kingdom is unshakable
With You forever we will reign

We will keep our eyes on You
We will keep our eyes on You
So we can set our hearts on You
Lord we will set our hearts on You!

A mighty fortress is our God
A sacred refuge is Your Name
Your Kingdom is unshakable
With You forever we will reign

Our God is, a consuming fire,
A burning holy Flame, with glory and freedom

Retro Thursday SOtheD 3.18.10 Friends (Michael W. Smith)

Retro Thursday SOtheD is dedicated to all of my friends... especially Julie Mcnally.

Friends

Packing up the dreams God planted
In the fertile soil of you
Can't believe the hopes He's granted
Means a chapter in your life is through
But we'll keep you close as always
It won't even seem you've gone'
Cause our hearts in big and small ways
Will keep the love that keeps us strong

And friends are friends forever
If the Lord's the Lord of them
And a friend will not say never'
Cause the welcome will not end
Though it's hard to let you go
In the Father's hands we know
That a lifetime's not too long to live as friends.

With the faith and love God's given
Springing from the hope we know
We will pray the joy you'll live in
Is the strength that now you show
But we'll keep you close as always
It won't even seem you've gone'
Cause our hearts in big and small ways
Will keep the love that keeps us strong

And friends are friends forever
If the Lord's the Lord of them
And a friend will not say never'
Cause the welcome will not end
Though it's hard to let you go
In the Father's hands we know
That a lifetime's not too long to live as friends.

SOtheD 3.17.10 - I have a Shelter (Sovereign Grace Ministries)

We are learning this song in our Wednesday night Bible study, so I thought it fitting to be the song of the day...enjoy!

I have a Shelter

I have a shelter in the storm
When troubles pour upon me
Though fears are rising like a flood
My soul can rest securely

O Jesus, I will hide in You
My place of peace and solace
No trial is deeper than Your love
That comforts all my sorrows

I have a shelter in the storm
When all my sins accuse me
Though justice charges me with guilt
Your grace will not refuse me

O Jesus, I will hide in You
Who bore my condemnation
I find my refuge in Your wounds
For there I find salvation

I have a shelter in the storm
When constant winds would break me
For in my weakness, I have learned
Your strength will not forsake me

O Jesus, I will hide in You
The One who bears my burdens
With faithful hands that cannot fail
You’ll bring me home to heaven

SOtheD 3.16.10 - Walk Your Road (by Watermark: Watermark)

My prayer for today... Oh Lord if only I could make my road look like Your road, If I could love the way You love... I want to know how to walk Your road.

Walk Your Road

Dusty feet tired from walkin,
But you have beautiful feet, and you walked those roads,
You gave hope to me,
Calloused Hands tired from workin,
But you have beautiful hands, and the wounds there-in have given life to me,

And I wanna know your beauty,
to hold it here in my heart,
Oh Lord if only
I could make my road look like your road,
If I could love the way you love,

If your word in my heart,
was the only thing I used to fill me up,
I wanna place my feet where, the wounded walk,
and where you learn to love no matter what the cost
I want to go, I wanna walk your road,

A broken heart for the wounded,
and yours is the most beautiful,
looking past our faults, and dying to meet our need,
Weeping eyes, for the sinner,
There's nothing more beautiful,
And Lord I want the passion of those tears,

And I wanna know your beauty, to hold it here in my hands,
Oh Lord if only, I could make my road look like your road,
If I could love the way you love,

If your word in my heart, was the only thing I used to fill me up...
Well I wanna place my feet where, the wounded walk,
And where you learn to love no matter what the cost I want to go,
I wanna know how to walk your road.

SOtheD 3.15.10 - Healing is in Your Hands (Christy Nockels, Passion: Awakening)

Bo Coyle was my cooking teacher in HS. Him and his wife joined my dad's church and have been long-time friends of mine. James and I went to see Mr. Coyle in the hospital yesterday as he is recovering from receiving another stent in his heart. He is also receiving chemo treatments for throat cancer. He shared with us yesterday how God used his sweet wife to save him - from the bottom of the barrell... His wife described him as a Catholic bar tender with a heart of gold. God healed his broken, depraved heart...and has the power to heal my friend, Mr. Coyle of his cancer.

Healing is in Your Hands
No mountain,
no valley,
no gain or loss we know
could keep us from Your love
No sickness, no secret,
no chain is strong enough
to keep us from Your love
to keep us from Your love

How high, how wide
No matter where I am, healing is in Your hands
How deep, How strong,
And now by Your grace I stand,
healing is in Your hands

Our present,
our future,
our past is in Your hands
We're covered by Your blood
We're covered by Your blood

How high, How wide
no matter where I am, healing is in Your hands
How deep, How strong
And now by Your grace I stand,
healing is in Your hands

In all things we know that
We are more than conquorers
You keep us by Your love...

SOtheD 3.14.10 - Reign in Us (Starfield)

You thought of us before the world began to breathe
You knew our names before we came to be
You saw the very day we fall away from You
and how desperately we need to be redeemed

Lord Jesus
come lead us
we're desperate for Your touch

Oh great and mighty one
with one desire we come
that You would reign that You would reign in us
we're offering up our lives
a living sacrifice
that You would reign that You would reign in us

Spirit of the living God fall fresh again
come search our hearts and purify our lives
we need Your perfect love we need Your discipline
we're lost unless You guide us with Your light

Lord Jesus
come lead us
we're desperate for Your touch

Oh great and mighty one
with one desire we come
that You would reign that You would reign in us
we're offering up our lives
a living sacrifice
that You would reign that You would reign in us

we cry out for Your life to revive us cry out
for Your love to define us cry out
for Your mercy to keep us
blameless until You return

oh great and mighty one
with one desire we come
that You would reign that You would reign in us
we're offering up our lives
a living sacrifice
that You would reign that You would reign in us

SOtheD 3.13.10 - "God, Be Merciful to Me (Psalm 51)"

James and I visited Tim Keller's church in NYC this past summer. This was one of the songs we sung while worshiping there...

God, Be Merciful to Me
(Psalm 51)

Words:

The Psalter

Music:
Christopher Miner

1. God, be merciful to me;
On Thy grace I rest my plea
Plenteous in compassion Thou,
Blot out my transgressions now;
Wash me, make me pure within;
Cleanse, O cleanse me from my sin.

2. My transgressions I confess;
Grief and guilt my soul oppress.
I have sinned against Thy grace,
And provoked Thee to Thy face.
I confess Thy judgement just;
Speechless, I Thy mercy trust.

3. I am evil, born in sin;
Thou desirest truth within.
Thou alone my Savior art,
Teach Thy wisdom to my heart;
Make me pure, Thy grace bestow,
Wash me whiter than the snow.

4. Broken, humbled to the dust
By Thy wrath and judgment just,
Let my contrite heart rejoice,
And in gladness hear Thy voice;
From my sins O hide Thy face,
Blot them out in boundless grace.

5. Gracious God, my heart renew,
Make my spirit right and true.
Cast me not away from Thee,
Let Thy Spirit dwell in me;
Thy salvation's joy impart,
Steadfast make my willing heart.

6. Sinners then shall learn from me,
And return, O God, to Thee
Savior all my guilt remove,
And my tongue shall sing Thy love
Touch my silent lips, O Lord,
And my mouth shall praise accord

3.12.10 SOtheD - "Oh the Cross" (Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir - "Declare Your Name" CD)

I've decided to add a Song of the Day (SOtheD) each day to this blog. This way, if you'd like to subscribe, you can listen to and contemplate the words to one great song every day - perhaps a song you've never heard before. Usually on my way into work I hear a song that sticks with me throughout the day. Today the SOtheD is "Oh the Cross" sung by the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir - enjoy!

Oh the Cross

My longing for love wouldn’t go away
I was desperate, searching, broken by pain
Looking for answers but nothing seemed right
Where was my answer, what was my life?
Blinded by sin I was lost, deceived
Until I turned my eyes to Calvary

Oh the cross where Jesus died
He shed His blood, gave His life for you and I
My sins erased, no longer lost
My debt was paid, I am saved
Oh the cross

Day after day as I live my life
I find heartache, trouble, battles to fight
When fear tries to grip me and I feel alone
My Jesus is with me
I’m not on my own
Now I can say in my heart I believe
My life has been changed because of Calvary

Oh the cross where Jesus died
He shed His blood, gave His life for you and I
My sins erased, no longer lost
My debt was paid, I am saved
Oh the cross

The Prodigal (sovereign grace "Sons & Daugherts")

You held out Your arms, I walked away
Insolent, I spurned Your face
Squandering the gifts You gave to me
Holding close forbidden things
Destitute, a rebel still, a fool in all my pride
The world I once enjoyed is death to me
No joy, no hope, no life

Where now are the friends that I had bought
Gone with every penny lost
What hope could there be for such as I
Sold out to a world of lies
Oh, to see Your face again, it seems so distant now
Could it be that You would take me back
A servant in Your house

You held out Your arms, I see them still
You never left, You never will
Running to embrace me, now I know
Your cords of love will always hold
Mercy’s robe, a ring of grace
Such favor undeserved
You sing over me and celebrateThe rebel now Your child

In the beginning...

I am starting this blog for my own use...I love music, it is such a huge part of my life. So often I hear songs, read and memorize lyrics, but then forget about them. I am going to use this blog to post lyrics and links to songs that speak to me. Feel free to recommend songs or share your comments! Enjoy.
